After the success of the 08 and 09 holidays to Geyikbayiri near Antalya in Turkey, we are running another week in 2010.  Geyikbayiri offers classic golden rock on tufas, crimps, slabs, everything.  It's accompanied by a great climbing camp within easy walking distance of all the crags, making for a superb climbing holiday destination.

Steve McClure is the leading British sport climber and his name is next to the hardest climb in the country at Malham cove; Overshadow, a whopping 9a+.  Read his interview>>. Steve knows Geyikbayiri and all the routes extremely well having coached there the last two years.  He has a remarkable ability to be one of the world's best climbers and be able to easily relate to people climbing at all levels.  He has a calm, relaxed and analytical approach that most people find very useful!

On previous trips Steve and I worked together on trips, but at the time of the 2010 holiday a new life will have entered the world two months earlier in the shape of my baby!!  So I can introduce Rob...

 Rob Napier

Rob Napier will be running this holiday with Steve.  Steve and I know him through the Foundry climbing wall in Sheffield where Rob instructs and coaches regularly. Steve and Rob have also worked on courses at the climbing wall together.

Rob teaches people of all ages and experiences but also plays a key role in coaching some of the young climbers in the Foundry Academy.  But his coaching experience isn't limited to indoors, he's done plenty outside in the Peak. Rob is also a dark horse on the climbing front having slipped in a remarkable redpoint of Mecca (8b+) at Raven Tor in what was reported to be practically baltic unclimbable conditions (from two friends, who have done more than enough hard climbing at altitude!).

This trip is suitable for people already leading french 5 (sport grading) upwards.. or British VS.  The week is not suitable for complete beginners, but it doesn't matter if your experience is only limited to indoors.  There are 10 places available on each week.

At the end of this holiday we can guarantee you will:

  • have more confidence
  • improve your footwork
  • have a great time and meet like-minded people

The above price includes

  • 5 days coaching (and one rest day)
  • 7 nights in beautiful wooden chalet and bungalow style accommodation
  • fresh breakfasts and lunches
  • airport collection and drop off

The price does not include your flight to Turkey (flights to Antalya) and evening meals

To book your place you need to pay a £150 deposit.

About the climbing

You couldn't wish for more varied climbing.  The main types are tufas, vertical crimp style and conglomerate.  These pack into routes of different length and angle where even steep ground isn't necessarily strenuous as you bridge between tufas.  Throughout the week you will have climbed on all types on both sides of the valley.

Food

The hub of the josito camp where we are staying is the bar and restaurant.  For breakfast, fresh tea or coffee (choose capuccinos or lattes...), muesli and fruit, scrambled eggs and salad or breads, nutella, jams...  Lunches will include sandwiches with feta cheese or tuna, salads, tomatoes with delicious local fruit and more.  We will dine here eating the communal meal with all the other camp members or visit the local fish restaurant.  Meals are cheap - up to 10 euros including starters.

There will be one rest day half way through the week, necessary to get the most out of your climbing.  We hire cars and ensure swimming and eating in a delicious local restaurant take place!  The swimming in a freshwater lagoon is a must.  There will be an extra nominal charge of £10-15 to cover car hire and petrol.
